Dive deep into the tranquility of nature.

Nature, the space uninhabited by man. A place to enjoy peace and untouched beauty. Remember those moments through the art of photography. Little pieces of time captured in a split second to remain for eternity.

Explore the places never seen and look at the everyday places like you’ve never been. Look farther into the trees, gaze into the brush, feel the grass, look closer into the still water, be still and listen, observe the small creatures. Witness nature all around you like you never have before.

“Allow nature to teach you stillness” -Eckhart Tolle

Take a moment to get lost in the beauty of the trees.

– JCH

“Time spent amongst trees is never wasted time.”

-Katrina Mayer

“I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees” – Henry David Thoreau

“Some beautiful paths can’t be discovered without getting lost.” -Erol Ozan

Take time to notice the details of the tiny creatures all around you.

The trick to understanding the big picture is to look at everything up close.

Such attention to detail in such tiny creatures proves everyone must have a purpose.

Sometimes you just have to sit on a log and enjoy your surroundings.

Take time to enjoy the journey.

Take a walk with a turtle, and behold the world in pause.”

-Bruce Feiler

“Roads were made for the journey not the destination.” -Confucius

Remember the turtle won the race.

Pause and Take a breath.

Pause and get to know the wild animals. Observe them. Listen. Respect them and their homes. They are all God’s creatures. If you watch them, you will see little personalities that are all different. It’s quite a site to see.

Teach your children about nature and they will grow up respecting all the little things. Take them on nature trails. Teach them about the animals. Make memories that will last forever.

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” -Jane Goodall

“We don’t own the planet Earth. We belong to it, and we must share it with our wildlife.” -Steve Irvin

There is nothing more exhilarating than chasing a storm and trying to catch something so intense on camera.

There is always a picture in the clouds you just have to find it.

Lightening does in fact strike the same place twice!

The rain is a very beautiful thing! A rainstorm in a sunset can make magical images!

“THE ARTIST SEES WHAT OTHERS ONLY CATCH A GLIMPSE OF.”

LEONARDO DA VINCI

Photography teaches you to slow down and enjoy life little moments to the fullest.

The more I photograph insects the more I realize how much they look like tiny little cartoon characters. They have such cute little faces.

If you’ve never experienced a goose migration, I suggest you do so. Geese come in by the thousands. You can hear their wings roaring as they all beat in unison as they come in for a landing. They look like a giant mighty funnel cloud. They are all honking to communicate with each other as they land. The whole experience can’t fully be described. You must witness it for yourself.

Photography has a way of turning time into magical little memories that allows those moment in time to be preserved forever and shared with the whole world.

Don’t just look straight ahead, look down amid the leaves. Look across the fields, and up into the sky. You never know what you might find.

“Which one of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow.” -Imogen Cunningham

Nature is truly magical, but you have to slow down to really notice all it’s wonders. It is all around us. When you really start to pay attention to the details you will see things you didn’t know existed. I’ve become aware of birds and insects that I wasn’t aware of that are amazing little creatures. I’ve seen flowers I had never noticed before. As a child we always colored the grass green, the trees brown and green, and the sky blue but there are so many more colors there than that once we pay attention.

One who seeks great pictures seeks the adventure more than the pictures. They tend to witness the most amazing things in nature and if they are lucky, they capture it on film.

“Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything thing to do with the way you see them.” -Elliot Erwitt

Welcome to Roughedge Photography! My name is Julie Hartsfield and I am a wildlife and nature photographer. Taking photos of wildlife and nature has been a longtime passion, and you’ll rarely see me without my camera!

My family and I spend our free-time and vacations alongside nature at every opportunity – national and state parks, wildlife refuges, national forests, and local nature trails – if there’s a place to explore where we can be one with nature, we’re there!

I’ve been blessed to have my work recognized locally, regionally, and nationally, winning dozens of photography awards. One of my greatest moments was when the local museum added one of my photos to one of their permanent exhibits.
